In one of the more heartwarming stories we’ve encountered this year, a daughter went above and beyond by secretly donating a kidney to her father.

Delayne Ivanowski (@delayne_I on TikTok) went viral after posting a video to the platform showing her and her father, John, meeting for the first time after the procedure.

John was diagnosed with an immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency over a year ago, according to CBS News Outlet KMOV4. Because of this, he was required to connect to a dialysis machine for three to five hours a day.

So why was this a secret? John refused to take his daughter’s kidney.

“I’m like, ‘You’re too young, you’ve got a long time to be here and my time’s limited,’” he told News 4.

Relentless, Delayne went through the approval process anyways and kept it hidden from him for 8 months.

Commenters note that most parents would refuse to take an organ from their children and can understand why Delayne had to keep everything a secret for so long.

Delayne posted to TikTok in hopes of raising enough money to cover the procedure costs. The cost appears to be about $6,000.
