Mom's Viral Cleaning Hack Involves Putting Kids in a Cardboard Box - Genius or Crazy?

Discover the latest parenting trend on TikTok that involves putting kids in a cardboard box while cleaning.

A mother on TikTok has gone viral for her unconventional parenting hack.

Gabrielle Dunn revealed in a video that she puts her children in a cardboard box when she needs them to stop bothering her so she can tidy up the house. Dunn's video has garnered over 10.9 million views, with some parents hailing her as a genius while others criticize her parenting.

The idea was first started by user @abbyfranco6, whose video Dunn had duetted. The beginning of the 30-second clip shows Franco's child sitting in a box, coloring on it with markers. "This buys me 30 min of unbothered cleaning," the text over the original video read.

Dunn then cuts to a clip of herself going outside to find a cardboard box of her own and plops her two children inside, along with a big box of crayons. While her two kids played, she vacuumed beside them, with the song "Gangsta's Paradise (Feat L.V.)" by Coolio and Kylian Mash playing over the top of the video.

"PURE GENIUS," Dunn wrote in the caption of her TikTok. "Glad we hadn't broken the box down yet!!"

However, not everyone is a fan of the parenting hack.

Some viewers criticized Dunn, saying that she is teaching her kids how to draw on the walls. Others expressed concern about the safety of the children, with one person writing, "My paranoia could not let me do anything else while I watch the kiddos to make sure they don't put the small broken pieces of crayon in their mouth."

Despite the criticism, other parents praised Dunn for her cleaning strategy. "OMG THIS IS AMAZING!!!" one viewer exclaimed.

"My little girl is an absolute nightmare with crayons, pencils, etc. & wants to draw everywhere!! I know what I'm away to go get!!"

Another labeled the idea as a "modern playpen!" while a third person noted that her own mother used a playpen in the 1960s to keep her and her siblings occupied and safe.

In conclusion, while Gabrielle Dunn's parenting hack may not be for everyone, it has certainly captured the attention of many parents on TikTok. It remains to be seen whether more parents will adopt this strategy. Still, one thing is for sure - creative parenting hacks like this are always a hot topic on social media.
