"I am shattered": Paramedic Unknowingly Treats Own Daughter in Horrific Fatal Car Crash

Mother unknowingly treats daughter in fatal car crash

Jayme Erickson was first to attend the Nov. 15 crash north of Calgary in which the passenger was trapped inside the vehicle with severe injuries. She then sat in the car and tended to the trapped woman until further medical teams arrived.

Tragically, the paramedic was not aware that it was her own daughter who had been in the accident until after she had been freed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital.

Her daughter, Montana, died in the hospital a short time later.

"The critically injured patient I had just attended to, was my own flesh and blood. My only child. My mini-me. My daughter, Montana," she stated. "Her injuries were so horrific I did not even recognize her. I was taken to FMC to see my baby girl, and was informed her injuries were not compatible with life."

Richard Reed, a paramedic and friend of Erickson, gave a press conference on Wednesday in which he detailed the events of that night.

He explained that Jayme unknowingly administered medical treatment to her daughter that kept her alive long enough for her family to say goodbye. He added that Erickson is a hero and that she did everything she could to save her daughter's life.

“She was a fighter and she fought until the day that she died and she was beautiful. She was so beautiful. If she ever put an effort into anything she would always succeed at it,” added Erickson.

As of this writing, the GoFundMe campaign set up for the family of Montana reached its goal of $100,000 in donations and is still accepting donations. The money will go towards providing the family with financial freedom during this difficult time, as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

"I will cherish the memories we made and the time we had together," she added. "I am shattered. I am broken. I am missing a piece of me. I am left to pick up the pieces and expected to carry on."
